Product Review: Gu strawberry Banana Gel

I am writing a review about the GU Energy Labs Strawberry Banana energy gel. It is a pretty good tasting gel that can be a life saver on those longer training days.

Nutrition

The gel contains 100 calories, a standard for the industry. It is 32 grams, also a typical measurement. There is no fat, and very little sodium (60mg) The gel contains 22 grams of carbohydrate, with 6 of them being attributed to sugars. Its not going to fill you up, but it will do the job.

Appearance taste and texture

The gels packet is very nice. It is small, wont snag the pockets of your shirt or jersey, and the top tears off very easily. The gel its self is a murky greenish color, but that is expected. The gel tastes like a very sweet banana, which is a good thing. Some flavors are not so great, but strawberry banana is definitely one of the best. The texture though, is a little thick. When the GU is warm, say maybe it has been in your pocket for an hour before your race, the consistency is like a thicker yogurt. But at cooler temps, it gets thicker. I suggest drinking some water with it, to soften it up.

Performance

The performance is the best part. The gels allow you to fly through your races. I recently placed third in a local cross country race after eating one of these. I find they do best eaten before an event, but they also work quite well when consumed during.

Cost

They are Not to expensive. They cost $1.25 for each single gel, and around $25 for a case of 24. I would suggest buying the case, since you will be using these all the time.

Matthew the middle schooler

Does it pass the middle school test? I gave one to Matthew to find out. "It tastes super sweet. i dont really like the texture, though. 3/5"

Overview

The Gels are one of the best purchases you can make. You will love the sweet flavor later on in your races, and the time drops will be amazing. I suggest you buy these the next chance you get.

Product Review: Honey Stinger Caramel Waffle

Today I will tell you about the Honey Stinger Caramel Waffle. It is an energy food meant for cyclists, runners, or anyone who needs a boost. It is completely Organic. With 160 calories packed into only 30 grams, its pretty calorie dense. Now lets get more into depth.

Nutrition

Like I said before, it has 160 calories. The waffle contains 21 grams of carbohydrates, with 14 of them coming from sugar. The main reason for all of this sugar is that all of their products are made with Real Honey It has no protein, and 7 grams of fat. The waffle is definitely a sometimes food.

Appearance, Taste, and Texture

It has a very interesting texture. The Waffle is really two super thin waffles glued together with what appears to be honey and Caramel. The outsides are crumbly, with the inside being nice and gooey, but it doesn't stick to the roof of your mouth. You can eat this without needing a drink, which is great when you're on a run. The taste is amazing. It feels like you are transported instantly to Belgium. When I first had one, I thought it was just a dessert.

Performance

It performs quite well. I tend to get an upset stomach when I eat to close to a workout, but I have never felt bad after eating one of these. A single waffle powers me through a solid six mile run with warm-ups and cool-downs. I also use it when biking. It is not to difficult to eat while biking, but sometimes the packaging can be difficult. It will keep you full for quite a while though.

Cost

The waffle doesn't cost too much in comparison to other energy products. It is around $1.50 for a single waffle at your local sporting store, and roughly $15.00 for a case of 16. All things considered, its pretty cheap

Matthew the middle-schooler

Does it pass the middle school test? I gave one to Matthew and he said "It tastes like a cookie. I like that it doesn't stick in my braces, but it's kind of crumbly. It's nice that I can eat it fast. I give it a four out of five stars"

Overview

The Honey Stinger Caramel Waffle  is a solid product. I would recommend it to anyone who wants a big kick of energy from some more realistic foods than just gels. It also costs very little. The only problem is that it is not low in fat, so you cant eat them for just plain snacking. I give it 4.5/5 stars.
